May 2007 Archive of News and MusingsSaturday, May 19, 2007 2007 Golf Tournament Highlights Earlier today we held the 5th Annual BHA Golf Tournament. Almost 80 golfers (our most ever!) joined us for a day fun and fellowship on the links at ParLine Golf Course in Elizabethtown. We started with beautiful weather, and though it turned a bit chilly and drizzly it was overall a wonderful day for golf. It was a scramble format tournament, where each player tees off and the team decides which shot to use. Each player then hits from that spot, with this continuing until someone on the team sinks the putt. Our winning team was "The Good Ole Boys". The day concluded with a delicious meal provided by the golf course, and lots of skill and random prizes being distributed. A special word of thanks is due to our sponsors:

 Practice, practice, practice!

How many golfers does it take to line up one putt? (Like we said, its a team format tournament.)

Thursday, May 10, 2007 BHA Work Day Rescheduled The BHA work day scheduled for this Saturday has been rescheduled to Saturday, May 19. We'll be working on Hummel Street from 8:30am to 11:30am on some various maintenance and renovation projects. If you can help, please give our Property Manager Dennis Saylor a call at (717) 233-6016, or e-mail him at dsaylor@bha-pa.org, so that he can properly prepare for the amount of volunteers joining us. Thanks for your consideration. Posted by Steve Schwartz (5/10/2007 10:18:57 AM | link)
Tuesday, May 08, 2007 Condolences to the Diener Family The Board and Staff of Brethren Housing Association would like to offer their heartfelt condolences to the family of Ray Diener in the aftermath of his tragic death. Ray was a generous man who was a special friend of our ministry. He left a legacy of kindness and good works which are a testimony to his care and concern for the less fortunate. We thank God for the privilege of knowing him, and ask God to surround Ray's loved ones with comfort and healing at this time. Posted by Steve Schwartz (5/8/2007 8:34:54 PM | link)
Monday, May 07, 2007 Mail Delivery Issues A word to supporters of BHA: We recently had one days' worth of mail disappear from our office. It was in the typical incoming mail slot behind a locked door, and when a staff member returned to deal with the mail, it was gone. We do not know if the problem was due to theft or to some error on our part, but after extensive searching, the mail has not be found. The day it disappeared was Friday, April 27, so items mailed earlier that week may have been in the pile of mail that disappeared. If you mailed a donation during that week, you should have received a tax receipt by this time. If not, please contact me at (717) 233-6016 or sschwartz@bha-pa.org with the details of your donation and I'll confirm whether or not we received it. This is especially important for Mother's Day donations and Golf Tournament registrations as both of these events are fast approaching. We apologize for any inconvenience. A final word about mail delivery: While this instance is unique, we'd like you to be aware that we have been dealing with mail delivery problems on our street for over five years. On a regular basis, mail gets delivered to the wrong addresses (or, on rare occasions, lost) and our efforts to rectify the situation with the local post office have not been wholly successful. If at anytime you mail a donation and do not get a tax receipt within 7-10 days (though its typically quicker than that), please feel free to contact me and I'll confirm whether we did receive your donation. We appreciate your patience as we work on this frustrating issue. Grace and peace,
Steve Schwartz
