Thursday, June 17, 2010 Urban Barn Raising - Progress Update! Here are highlights from our urban barn raising this past Saturday, led by a volunteer crew from Mount Wilson Church of the Brethren in Lebanon (coordinated by Pastor John Brenneman and Project Manager Chris Buck). We began the day with a patch of concrete and ended with a structure in place. All of the pictures below are from Saturday, June 12. At the end of the day we were hit with a bad rain storm...and it started to pour moments after the last nail was put in the last shingle on the roof. Praise God for looking out for us! Now we move on to siding and finish work. We still are raising funds to cover the cost of the finish work and laundry equipment for the laundromat. We welcome donations designated toward this project, or if your church or civic group would like to take on part of the project as a fundraiser, please contact our Executive Director Steve Schwartz at (717) 233-6016 or sschwartz@bha-pa.org for more information.

Saturday, June 12, 2010 Urban Barn Raising--Happening TODAY! We've been planning our urban barn raising project for over a year, and its happening today! A volunteer crew is here from Mount Wilson Church of the Brethren in Lebanon (led by Pastor John Brenneman and Project Manager Chris Buck) coordinating a work crew to raise the new barn. Check out our Facebook photo album to see pictures of the project from start to finish. Here are a few highlights: BEFORE: This is the old dilapidated structure that survived a tree falling on it during a tornado in 2004, but was progressively getting worse as you can see by the cracks.
DEMOLITION: In January, 2010, a crew from The Hanoverdale Church near Hershey, PA tore down the old structure and hauled it away, clearing the site for the new Service Barn. The crew was headed by BHA Board Member Alex Groff (pictured, far right).
DEMOLITION: The crew celebrates their success!
FOUNDATION: In May 2010, a crew from Conewago Church of the Brethren near Hershey laid block for the foundation.
FOUNDATION: In June 2010, the Conewago COB team led by Bill Kettering (pictured, right) poured the foundation.
FOUNDATION: The Conewago COB team finished the foundation on June 8.

Thursday, June 03, 2010 2010 BHA Golf Tournament Highlights
We could not have asked for a more beautiful day for the BHA Golf Tournament. On May 14, 92 golfer joined us for a fun and meaningful day on the links. Through their support as well as numerous sponsors, we raised $6,650 in support of our programs helping homeless families get back on their feet. Thanks everyone! As we sat and ate a delicious post-tournament pork chop meal under the pavilion, a major rainstorm broke out. So we got our golf in and the earth got some nourishment. All in all a great day.
