Program: Housing Rehabiliation Work BHA is not only in the people business, but also the property business. We want to make our neighborhood a better place by renovating its historic homes, so over the years we have purchased and rehabilitated the properties that we use in our various programs. Many of these properties were blighted or in danger of becoming blighted. Our newest property is a former crack house in a dilapidated condition, and we are in the demolition process while we seek funds to rehabilitate this property.
We are constantly in need to volunteers to help us maintain and repair our existing properties, as well as to assist with more in depth renovation efforts. If you'd like to join us for an occasional workday or on a more regular basis, contact Dennis Saylor, our Property Manager at 717.233.6016 or dsaylor@bha-pa.org.
Current Rehabilitation ProjectsIn the past year we completed the exterior rehab of one of our larger buildings as well as the renovation of a two bedroom apartment with funding received from the Josiah and Bessie Kline Foundation as well as other donors. Our next projects include:
- An Urban Barn Raising...tearing down and rebuilding our storage barn to add a workshop, furniture bank and laundry facility.
- Completely rehabilitating the former crack house mentioned above, turning it into usable apartments for the women in our programs. We are seeking $150,000 in funding for this project. Donations of professional labor and/or materials can also assist us by lowering the dollar amount needed for this and other projects.
For more information on how you can help, contact Dennis Saylor, our Property Manager at 717.233.6016 or dsaylor@bha-pa.org.
